Devilfish wins Euro Finals of Poker Main Event
The Devilfish is officially back! Just over two weeks after winning a side event at the Irish Poker Championships, Dave 'The Devilfish' Ulliott has won his first main event of the year. The most successful UK player of all time has added €152,000 and a diamond bracelet to his tournament spoils at the Euro Finals of Poker at the Aviation Club in Paris. When he has the chip lead, the Devilfish is usually devastating and that's just what happened here, he started the day as chip leader and bulldozed a final table that included Paul Testud and Theo Jorgensen. He is now on his way to Deauville for the next leg of the EPT.
'What a great start to the year,' said Ulliott after the event. 'I was originally going to go to the Aussie Millions but changed my mind and I'm damned glad I did. I'm off to Deauville now to make it a hat-trick.'
Paul Barnes, CEO of DevilfishPoker.com said, 'It seems clear what Devilfish's New Year resolution was: win as many tournaments as possible in 2009, and boy is he on a roll. Well done Devilfish'
GCBPT Grand Final on Setanta
Poker is all over UK screens at the moment and now we have heard that last year's Gala Coral British Poker Tour Grand Final is going to be televised on Thursday night on Setanta 2 between 8pm and 10pm. Just in case you don't know who won (It wasn't the Devilfish) we'll not ruin the surprise for you, but if you don't have Setanta check out our archive from last month.
GUKPT Side event Results
As we mentioned last week, a GUKPT side event is more than just a side event, and last week's festival in Brighton produced some noteworthy winners that will now be playing in the Champion of Champions event at the end of the year. Matt Perrins won the £200 NL event for £9,210 and Nicholas Heather won the £300 event for £14,190.
Then it was the turn of a big name, former Manchester Main Event champion Dave Colclough won the £100 PLO rebuy event for £9,740 and will be the first of many major names in the Champion's event. This was followed by Alexander Zeligman taking down the £100 event for £2,850 and at the end of the week Daniel Teymourian winning the £100 bounty event for £1,830.
Devilfish Poker Player Dies
But the real story of the week (Other than the main event) was surely local player Shana Casaletto, who won both the Friday £100 event for £2,850 and the £250 Saturday event for £8,210. Shana is only the second female to win a GUKPT event and the first player ever to win back to back events. This win means she will start the Champion of Champions event with more chips that all the other side event winners.
